Therapy can be non-traditional. Outdoor walk & talk sessions are offered (dependent on insurance criteria) and can range from simply walking on the Greenbelt to meeting at a local trail or sitting in a quiet area at one of the nearby parks. Being in the outdoors has been proven to boost mood, energy, and help one feel more grounded.
My purpose as a therapist is to support clients in developing a stronger sense of identity, coping with difficult emotions, and creating healthy boundaries within their relationships. Together we work to increase self-understanding, explore patterns of thought and behavior, break through negative beliefs, and learn new perspectives. I may challenge you to change self-defeating beliefs & behaviors with the goal of helping you find inner peace and self-acceptance.
My approach is eclectic and integrated. I utilize modalities that include EMDR, Internal Family Systems, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, attachment perspectives, and trauma & grief informed. My work is client-centered, which simply means each client is an equal partner in the counseling process and my task is to support and facilitate the journey towards self-understanding which leads towards healing and positive growth. The most important aspect of therapy is an authentic and trusting relationship between the client and therapist. When you feel comfortable, heard, and safe, a trusting relationship develops which allows for effective work together.
